Client Work : Cubano Collaboration

6B2

Cubano was an internal collaboration with a graphic designer on my course and a third photographer. It was my first collaborative brief of the year which I was using for my 603 module. It was a good brief for my practice as I know that I prefer to work in a collaborative sense.

Working collaboratively in this sense with another creative that doesn't do my course was good as it prepared me for stuff I want to do in future.

It also made me think about my future and how I don't want to work freelance to create booklets like this. It was a fun project to do in uni but the photography client set many limitations. Looking back on it I think it would have been beneficial to all the parties involved to have a mini contract like a document that set the rules out as to who was doing what.

Kitty and I (the other graphic designer) set rules for ourself each having separate rules but working alongside each other to make sure we were both on the same vibe and ha the same ideas for the outcome however we did not set any rules regarding how involved the client would be which I think hindered the design process a bit.

Overall I enjoyed the collaboration as it showed me that working alongside another graphic designer was beneficial as she had some strengths that were not my strengths and my strengths were aspects of her weaknesses.

Inspo : Kenzo

6A2

Kenzo is a followed Instagram account of mine that I love to look at. I think their fashion is really out there and cool. They put together patterns and colours that people would not normally put together. This is an aspect that I want to use further in my practice and potentially my personal branding as they are representing freedom and a design that does what they want.

Client : BRIT intimates

Working with Brittany proved to be difficult at times, her weakness was decision making, which made the task more challenging. To get around this the options that were showed to the client were small variations of each design thus making it a simple task for the client to do. However, the communication and work-based relationship was good which made the brief enjoyable.  The client will be coming back in the future for any more designing needed.

How to get Paid

6A2

How much would you charge for a logo for a student business? 50 – 100
How much would you charge for an Indie mag design? 250-300
How much would you charge for branding a festival? 1000

Clients are paying for the experience and knowledge that you have and you must be confident in hat you are designing and that it is worth something good.

Contracts and Chasing payments is an important part of freelancing is contracts and getting paid on time. The contract must list the deliverables in detail, the price and when the money will be paid. This then also portrays that once delivered to the client they then own the work however they must still credit the designer. If cancelled or unused they must still pay you in full.

Self Promo

6B2, 6A2, 6D2

Instagram is a very powerful platform for creative professionals it is a very helpful tool.

Work in groups to identify specialist / professional who can help you, make sure the email is a compelling case as to why the professional would be helpful. You could try to use visuals, stats and a story to portray your case.

You must consider the studio or persons background, how big is their following? You must also consider how their content is engaging, does their Instagram gain them work? Do you think you could learn a lot from them and what do you think you would like to ask them?
